Before you start installing the SI Server, consider the following:
Review the supported installation environments for SI.
Check out the hardware and software requirements.
Check out the SI Release Notes.
Here are some things you need to know about the SI Server and the SI Client before starting the installation.
The SI Server houses your licensing and user information, catalog, projects, and other shared data, such as custom reports and queries.
The SI Server will be installed on one machine on your network (or on the cloud).
The SI Server must be installed on Windows; there is no Mac version of SI. If you use a Mac, you will need to install it on Windows using Bootcamp, Parallels, or VMware.
If you are running Parallels with Windows 11, you will not be able to install the SI Server on that machine, and it will only be usable as an SI Client.
The SI Client can be installed on the same machine as your SI Server.
Installation
1/ Run the SIServer.exe file you downloaded from D-Tools.
2/ Click the Install SI Server button.
If any prerequisite software is required, you will be prompted to install it. Your SI server machine must have an internet connection, as the prerequisites will be downloaded from D-Tools.
3/ Once the prerequisites are installed, the D-Tools System Integration Server Setup Wizard will open, click the Next button.
4/ Next, you will verify that you have run all of your Windows updates. Just do it.
5. Scroll down, read the SLA, click the I accept... box, and click the Install button.
6/ When finished installing, click Close, and the SI Server Configuration Wizard will open.
Server Configuration
After you install the SI Server, you must configure it. There are two options for configuring your SI Server: Express and Custom.
We recommend using the Express option. This configuration option automatically installs SQL Server 2019 Express and creates the default instance DTOOLSSIX.
For details on the Custom configuration, check out this article.
If you cancel the SI Server Configuration Wizard before completing it, SI will not function.
To re-initiate the SI Server Configuration Wizard, manually run the following file: C:\Program Files (x86)\D-Tools\SIX\Server\SIServerConfigurationWizard.exe
Express Configuration
1/ When the SI Server Configuration Wizard opens, click the Express button.
2/ Enter a name for your Admin user (or just leave it as is), set a password, and enter your email address.
The password must be 12 characters long and contain at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, a number, and a funky symbol.
3/ Click the Next button.
Once the SI Server Configuration Wizard is completed, you will receive an email with your administrator login credentials at the address you provided.
4/ You will now see a summary of your configuration information. Click the Next button.
5/ If you want to add AES-128 encryption for the communication between your SI Server and SI Client, click the Back button and check the Encrypt client/server communications option.
6/ SQL Server 2019 Express will download and install. When finished, click the Finish button.
If this is your first time configuring the SI Server, you will be prompted whether or not you would like to download a sample database. This is optional.
7/ If you decide to download the sample database, you will be prompted to choose which database to install (only one option is shown below). Click the Download Now link.
If a previous database is detected, you will see the following prompt. When configuring for the first time, you won't see this warning. This is just here to protect existing users from overwriting their existing data.
8/ Once the configuration has been completed, click Finish.
