You have the option of setting "Calculated Pricing" for labor items vs. setting fixed prices.
Existing labor Items in your catalog cannot be converted to use calculated pricing. Only new labor items can be set to use calculated pricing when they are being added.
Calculated labor items do not calculate off of other Items, i.e., the price of a calculated item (product, labor, or allowance) cannot be used for a calculated labor item.
You can assign a labor type to calculated labor items, but no labor calculations are based on labor type values.
To use calculated pricing on a labor item, when creating the new labor item, click the Calculated radio button on the Price tab.
There are various options to set the value for the unit cost and unit price for a calculated labor item.
Source
First, you choose a Source field. You can select a Total field from the dropdown or set the source as Unit Price, Margin, or Markup.
The "Recalculate Automatically" option is checked by default.
This will automatically update the unit cost and unit price of the labor item within a project when the value for the Source changes.
If you do not have this box checked, you can still manually recalculate the price for a calculated labor item within a project.
Operation
Next, you choose an operation from the following list.
Value
Once you've chosen an operation, you can then set a value. The value will either be a percentage or a decimal number based on the operation chosen.
Filters
You have the option of setting one or more of the following filters shown below.
The "Current Parent Item" is pre-selected, as this is very likely the behavior you will want for calculated items, primarily to maintain expected pricing when a quantity greater than one is split into various quantities.
The location and system options allow you to choose whether or not to include sublocations and subsystems.
If you do not choose a filter when using a "Total" Source, the project total for that source will be used.
Tax
You can assign a labor type to calculated labor items, but no labor calculations are based on labor type values. Your tax fields will vary depending on your Tax settings.
