Miscellaneous Items, often abbreviated as "Misc. Items" in SI, are items that do not exist in your SI catalog. You create them on a per-project basis if you want to add untaxed items to a project. These are generally used for shipping charges, travel time, per diems, etc.
Miscellaneous items are displayed on SI reports and are added to the total project number after taxes have been applied to all other items. No tax is applied to misc. items.
To add a miscellaneous item, click New > Misc. Item from the Project tab of the Project Editor.
The following form will open.
Misc. Item Fields
Use the Name and Description fields to enter the name and description. Also specify the quantity.
The Unit Price field can be manually entered, or the Compute button can be clicked to create a calculated value.
This will open the following form where you can calculate the price based on all items (products and labor), all products, all labor, or you can choose specific products and labor.
When you choose the radio button for specific products and labor, click the appropriate button to choose the specific products or labor items from the project.
You can choose which field to use to make your calculation.
The default setting is to recalculate the price automatically when anything changes in the project, and is valid when using the "all" options.
If you wish to round the calculated price, click the Rounding Options link and choose your preferences.
The Unit of Measure is an optional text field that will display on SI reports and can be used if needed, e.g., you might enter "miles" if the misc. item is for mileage.
The Accounting Estimate Number field will be automatically populated if added to a QuickBooks estimate, or you can manually enter information using another accounting software.
Misc. Item in Project
When added to the project, you will see the following prompt informing you how to view, edit, or delete the miscellaneous item in the Project Editor.
This will change the view only to show the miscellaneous items in the Project Editor. This is the only place where miscellaneous items are displayed within the Project Editor.
Misc. Items in Reports
Miscellaneous items are displayed in various SI reports.
The example below shows how and where they are displayed on a Proposal report. The first place is in a grouping displayed after the Project Subtotal.
The value and name will also be displayed in the Project Summary section of the report.
Use the Report setting under the Control Panel to override the default display name of "Miscellaneous Items" to something you choose.
