How to use the Lock and Unlock features for Project, Project Reports, and Project Items

You can use the Lock and Unlock features in Project Editor to:

  • Lock items from being edited within the project and unlock them when needed.

  • Lock the entire project from being edited and unlock it when needed.

  • Lock reports from being generated and allow generating reports when needed.

Locking projects and locking reports can also be triggered using the Workflow Rules setting in the Control Panel.

You must have appropriate user group permissions to lock and unlock items, projects, and Project reports.

Lock and Unlock Project

1/ Clicking Lock > Lock Project in the Tools tab will lock the project for all edits, i.e., the project is read-only.

You'll be prompted to confirm.

2/ Click Yes.

Locked projects display the following Lock icon in the Project Explorer.

1/ Clicking Lock > Unlock Project unlocks the project.

If any workflow rules exist that lock the project, the following prompt will be displayed.

2/ Select the rule(s) and click Yes.

Lock and Unlock Project Reports

1/ Clicking Lock > Lock Project Reports in the Tools tab will lock the Project reports. The users will not be able to generate reports for the project.

You'll be prompted to confirm.

2/ Click Yes.

Projects with other reports locked display the following Lock icon in the Project Explorer.

1/ Clicking Lock > Unlock Project Reports unlocks the capability to generate Project reports.

If any workflow rules lock the Project reports, you will see a prompt similar to the one shown when unlocking a project.

2/ Select the rule(s) and click Yes.

Lock and Unlock Project Items

You can lock certain items within a project to prevent them from being edited.

1/ Select the items you wish to lock, and click Lock > Lock Project Items in the Tools tab.

You will see the following prompt.

2/ Click Yes on the following prompt.

You will see a Lock icon in a column within the Project Editor indicating that the item is locked.

If you want to automatically lock items when they are marked as Installed, enable the following Project setting in the Control Panel.
