You can access the Labor Types setting in the Control Panel to add and manage Labor Types for SI Projects and Service Orders. Labor Types allow you to charge for labor.
Labor Type is one way in which you can charge for labor.
Check out this article on Labor Considerations for your options to charge for labor in SI Projects and Service Orders.
To access the Labor Types setting, click the following form.
This will open the following form.
Add Labor Types
You can add as many new Labor Types as you would like to.
To add a new Labor Type:
1/ Click "New."
2/ On the form, do the following:
a/ Add a name for the Labor Type.
b/ Add the values in the columns for the sections of the Labor Type. A Labor Type is broken down into four sections: Base Labor, Misc. Labor, Mgt. Labor and Design Labor.
The Misc. Labor, Mgt. Labor and Design Labor are considered Sub-Labor Types.
Refer to the following table for details about the columns.
Field | Description |
Cost/Hr | How much labor costs you per hour. |
Price/Hr | How much you charge per hour of labor. |
Margin (%) | The margin between Cost/Hr and Price/Hr. |
Factor (%) | What percentage of each Base Labor hour you are charging the client.
This number is always 100% for the Base Labor but you will most likely vary the Misc., Mgt., and Design percentages.
This will affect the number of hours used in calculations. For example, a Design Labor factor of 25% would mean that you would include .25 hrs (15 minutes) of Design Labor for each hour of Base Labor (Install Labor.) |
Difficulty (%) | This field is a multiplier for hours and it affects the Base and Misc. hours only.
This number should be set to 100% by default but can be changed on a per-project basis if you wish to increase the number of hours charged for Base and Misc. Labor.
For example, if you change this number to 200% for the Rough-In Labor Type within a project, all products assigned to the Rough-In Labor Type would double the existing hours. |
Time Multiplier (%) | These numbers show the details of what is being multiplied. |
Factored Cost/Hr | Displays your Cost/Hr based on the number you enter for the Factor(%.) |
Factored Price/Hr | This field cannot be edited. It is your Price/Hr based on the number you enter for the Factor(%.) |
Other Labor Type Settings
3/ The following settings are the preferences for the Labor Type.
βIgnore Labor Calculations
Selecting this option for a Labor Type will dismiss the computation of labor calculations.
You might use this option within a Project, for example, where you were not charging labor and only wanted to charge a client for the equipment within a particular Labor Type.
Labor Type Specific Price Adjustments
Selecting this option for a Labor Type sets a Labor Adjustment %, on the Labor Type.
When you check the "Override price adjustments for product or labor (items) assigned to this labor type" checkbox, these values will override the Labor Adjustment % settings under Price Adjustments Settings.
Include in task estimated hours
Unchecking this option will ignore the hours associated with the Labor Type for Products when added to Tasks and not include them in the Estimated Hours.
For example, you may only want your "Installation" Labor Type's hours to be used on Tasks.
4/ Click Save.
If you want to copy all the values and settings from an existing Labor Type to a new Labor Type to save time, select the source Labor Type from the "Copy values from" dropdown.
Edit Labor Type
If you edit a Labor Type name, all products in your Catalog assigned this Labor Type will be updated with the new Labor Type name.
Delete Labor Type
When you delete a Labor Type, the following warning will display informing you that if you proceed, the products in your Catalog assigned to this Labor Type will have this Labor Type and the associated hours removed from the product.
Labor Type Mapping
This feature allows you to map the default Labor Types assigned to products in the D-Tools Library to your own custom list of Labor Types so that when you download Products they will automatically be assigned the Labor Type of your choice.
In the example above, all three default names for Labor Types in the D-Tools Library are set to be "Site" upon download, and "Programming" will remain "Programming."
Adding Labor Types to Products
You can add multiple Labor Types to Products in your Catalog via the Price tab when editing a Product.
For each Labor Type you add, you will also set the number of hours. These hours are multiplied by the pricing set on the Labor Type to charge for labor when the Product is added to a Project or a Service Order.
You can add Labor Types to multiple Products in your Catalog via the Tools tab.
Check out this article for more details.
